Steps to Conquer Discouragement
1. Remove any Guilt. - Guilt is removed by
repentance and confession. (see 1 Jonh 1:8-9).
Example David and Absalom. 2. Take up the
Shield of Faith. - Eph. 6:16 "Above all taking the shield of faith…to quench
all the fiery darts of the wicked one." - By quoting God's truth
when we recognize Satan's lies II Cor. 10:5 (Example)
· God has left me - Heb. 13:5 "…I
will never leave thee…" ·
No Good will come from
this - Rom 8:28 "…All things work together for
good…" · People hurt me - Eph. 6:12 "…We
wrestle not against flesh and blood…" · God is punishing
me - Heb. 12:6-11 "…For whom the Lord loveth…" · I am
weak - II Cor. 12:9 "…My strength is made perfect in
weakness…" 3. Encourage our Hearts in the
Lord. · David's greatest calamity came just a
few days before he was established as king. I Sam. 30:6 "…But
David encouraged himself in the Lord" · Satan often
brings to us the greatest discouragements just before God fulfills
our expectation. · It is for this reason that
Father-God warns us not to give up. Gal. 6:9 "…We shall
reap, if we faint not". ·
How to encourage our
hearts in the Lord? - We let God's Spirit commune with our
spirits through the Psalms. We must not allow our minds,
wills, or emotions (soul) to communicate with our spirits, but
rather make every effort to have God's Spirit (through His Word)
communicate to our spirits.
